Your class has watched a panel discussion on how young people use social media websites. You have made the notes in the image.

Write an essay discussing two of the ways in your notes that people use social media websites. You should explain which of these you think is more useful for young people, and provide reasons to support your opinion.

You may, if you wish, make use of the opinions expressed in the discussion, but you should use your own words as far as possible.

Essay

As we all see, young people spend a lot of time on social media in various ways. While some teenagers make friends online, I believe networking is more beneficial for them.

On the one hand, developing friendships through social media is good, and young people might meet friends who live in different areas. Without the Internet, they usually play with friends from the same region and have no chance to see the world’s diversity. By contrast, social media provides a window into how different the world is. It helps them grow and leads them more inclusive. Moreover, social media makes it easier for young people to find friends with the same interests and hobbies, particularly nerds and the disabled. They may gain more confidence from the online community.

On the other hand, networking is more valuable for the younger generation. Firstly, many experts are kind and open to being contacted. For young people, that is a fantastic way to learn some skills and experience. Also, the skill of selling themselves to experts is crucial for their future lives. Secondly, building a personal online reputation will attract more career and educational opportunities. It can increase the success rate of professional work. Finally, connecting with celebrities and institutions can bring their attention to local problems, such as pollution and poverty, and can make change happen.

In conclusion, I would say that young people get more benefits from networking than friendship while playing with their phones.

Some children spend hours every day on their smartphones. Why is this the case? Do you think this is a positive or a negative development?

Essay

With the development of network technology, our social life and daily life have become inseparable from the Internet. With mobile phones, we can surf on the website easier. At the same time, many people, including children, spend too many hours every day on their mobile phones, which is bad for their physical health also mental health.

For physical health, More and more children have vision problems. Due to the bad posture caused by playing on the phone for so long, many children’s physical development is affected. When they want to relax themselves, playing mobile phones will be their first choice rather than going out and play some sports.

For mental health, There is a lot of unhealthy information on the Internet like violence or extremism. Since children’s judgment is not fully developed, those information can easily affect their cognition. On the other hand, the bad values and comparing phenomenon on the Internet can easily make children have the tendency of inferiority and self-doubt.

My advice is that It’s good for children to use mobile phones in moderation. For example, there is a lot of educational content on the Internet. They can learn new things without feeling overly stressed. Plus, they can have fun with some course which they interested in. Therefore, It’s our responsibility to helping them manage their hours and creating an objective online environment.

Random thoughts.

Essay

Here come some random thoughts. Non business related, and not academic at all.

I’ve been constantly thinking about my life during these months. It might be related to the place I lived which seems a lot likely to be influenced by the pandemic prevention and control policy to help me escape from long-term business trips. In this tiny apartment, I spent half time of this year working from home, cooking for myself, making my own drinks, decluttering, packing and unpacking, buying in more living products for both safety and joy, reading, staring blankly, panicking and thinking aloud. I even bought professional tools for home BBQ and manicure, in exchange for my inner peace, shortly.

It has been a very special year for me, I mean, year of 2022. I would describe January 1st as a turning point for my career, my life, my inner thoughts and me as a whole. I started to spend time in counseling rooms, attended peer healing sessions and trying hard to contemplate my daily thoughts without judging. Known myself better has become an urgency, given higher priority than earning money, losing weight and living in the moment. Surprising, isn’t it?

These changes are kinda hidden. You may hard to tell from my living habits. Rarely going out like I born to be, anti-social as always and switching from flabby to aggressive like I usually do. But I am close to the human of completeness with certainty. 30% in year 2021, 55% this year, perhaps.

From hesitate a lot in the beginning, till waver a bit less today, I am trying to focus on sustainability of my life journey. Before my upcoming birthday, I am not that passive on time goes by and care less about becoming one year older. Not guilty for say no, setting boundaries, being the responsible for myself and find my own path. There are just so many tasks I am willing to dig in.
