Four Things I Learned in One Month Writing Group

In July, I organized an English writing group, and invited six people to practice writing together. In sum, we produced ten essays that are presented at here. And here are four things I learned from this journey.

People are often overly concerned about their English level, indicated by a lack of confidence in using it. Typical sentences are “I haven’t used English in several years, and I don’t know if my level is good enough?” and “Can I do it? No, wait until I prepared.” Frankly, this is definitely not a problem. People who have completed middle school are fully capable of participating in this writing group. Not to mention, most of my contacts have passed CET4 and even studied abroad.

Learning thirty minutes a day is difficult. People don’t have the energy to study. For employees, most of their free time is in the evening, and most participants also write during this time. But the night is the slackest time for people. Workers run out of energy and are surrounded by distractions like short videos and pets. It is rare to study for half an hour after getting off work.

It is best to write at a fixed time. I do not mean an exact time. It can be a particular period, such as 10 minutes after getting on the subway in the morning or half an hour after lunch.

Good articles come from good preparation. The better the material is prepared, the better the writing.
